Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Medium Workout today. Last real workout before Indy. Warmed up for 5 miles, then put on my flats and went to the Logan High track. Fortunately I had the oval to myself today.

The workout was 6x1600m @ LT pace, with 2 minutes recovery jog (1 lap). Interval splits were

  • 4:59
  • 5:04
  • 5:01
  • 5:02
  • 5:03
  • 4:53

The first one was a bit fast, then I settled in for the next four intervals, and then opened it up a bit on the last one. Everything felt good and well-controlled, and this is pretty much the kind of workout I like to pop off at the beginning of a taper.

Cooled down for a  couple miles. Average pace for the entire run of 14 miles was 6:14/mile.

Enjoy the taper. How soon do you get to head out there?

Dave - thanks.

I'm just curious what you run on the Logan High track that you call a mile. I've looked on various websites and think I have a good idea, but usually just call 4 laps in the second lane a mile, even though it isn't...

From Paul on Thu, Oct 28, 2010 at 13:14:49 from 65.103.252.214

Jason - nowhere do I call it a "mile". I call it 6x1600m.

From Paul on Thu, Oct 28, 2010 at 13:17:04 from 65.103.252.214

If you want to convert a 1600m time to a mile time (1609m), add about 2 sec. Close enough. I guess I've never cared enough to split hairs, but I'm not a very "exact" person either. I actually ran 13.93 miles yesterday, but that's "close enough" to 14.

Looking good man. Hopefully your feeling the flow going into Indy.

Paul - thanks, I was just curious. I might have some hints of OCD when it comes to tracking numbers. I know your workouts are amazing, but sometimes I have to split hairs to see the improvements in myself...

Jason - You must be an engineer for a computer scientist.
