Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

I was very saddened today to learn that Adam Jacobs died unexpectedly earlier this week. Adam was the owner of The Final Sprint (thefinalsprint.com), and I wrote articles for the site for about a year, back in 2007. During that time I talked to Adam frequently and got to know him a bit. I admired him for his energy, passion for running, and what he was doing for the sport through his website and the media coverage it provided. He was also a class act, always interested in my own running, and always willing to chat about running and other things. An all-around good guy. This has weighed on me deeply today, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. Adam was 24 years old.

I heard about that yesterday- very sad. Any news on how he died?

That's sad, and comes at an odd time for me. Yesterday the guy who ran a small bakery in town, which was one of my favorite places to go over the past year, died suddenly as well. He was in his 40s. Also in the morning, a runner in our club had the doctor quit halfway through a bypass surgery because of complications. And my father broke his ankle and had to have surgery. Those are all unrelated and vary to degrees in how they impact lives, but in combination have made this one of those weeks where I'm reminded how very grateful I am to be healthy, and how lucky I am to get to wake up and run in the morning.

Jon - no word on cause of death, just the word "unexpectedly" from the press release.

David - definitely.
