Tempo day. I planned on doing some intervals, but I decided that I hate intervals, and never want to do them again. Ever. Again. In my lifetime. I love tempos. I will run tempos. Today I ran a tempo. Did the Bear River Loop. First 10 miles in 56:10 (5:37/mile average), then coasted back in, with 6x100m strides along the way. 5:52/mile average for the entire run.

Amen on the tempos, quickest way to the runner's high in my experience. Intervals, on the other hand, I think are just the quickest way to barfing and mental/physical destruction.

Paul, you've ignited a pretty good debate down here between Logan and Clyde about tempos and interval work - Clyde wants no intervals (1000's) ever again and Logan doesn't mind them every couple weeks. Anyway... it is entertaining to listen to!

Don't get me wrong, I think that intervals are beneficial, and part of being a well-rounded runner. I just don't think I want to be well-rounded anymore.

It would be interesting to see everyone's composition of fast twitch to slow twitch muscle fibres in correlation with their preference of workout vs their best 100m-400m times

Paul- if we really wanted to be well-rounded, we'd do the decathalon, right? Specialist is where it's at.
