Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Ran from work around noon. It was still snowing a little, but the roads weren't too bad. Ended up doing a Planet Walk route, and averaged about 7:32/mile.

The worst is yet to come for weather. We are supposed to have sub-zero temps in a couple days, which is absurd for November. I used prize money from the marathon to order a pretty nice treadmill (Nordic Track Commercial 7500), but it probably won't arrive until next week. The big news is that I am running Boston this spring (just got my registration done), which I'm extremely excited about, but it also means I need to stay in shape over the winter and actually do some decent mileage. But the treadmill will help with that, and the thought of going for the Trials standard at the venue of Boston gives me plenty of motivation.

Congrats! That is exciting. I hope you enjoy the treadmill.

I didn't sign up for Boston in time, so I guess my only way to get in now is to run a 2:20 before then. :)

From Dale on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 18:28:26 from 69.10.215.11

Boy, now that someone blog-famous is running Boston, I really can't afford to slack off on my training. 4+ inches of snow on the roads before Thanksgiving does not bode well for an "easy" winter here either. Good luck.

That's not a treadmill that's an entertainment system. Very nice Treadmill Paul and you deserve it. I hope Boston offers great weather and a wonderful experience for you. First time you've ran it?

From Paul on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 19:12:22 from 65.103.252.214

Kory - lol, yes, I need to be entertained! I also considered a Sole F-85, but the bass isn't as good!

Yes, will be the first time for Boston.

From Dale on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 19:18:53 from 69.10.215.11

So exactly how long did forever last?

From Paul on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 19:24:10 from 65.103.252.214

Forever? Goes through the end of the year. You're looking at the 2010 racing schedule, not the 2011 racing schedule. One year at a time, man.

From Dale on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 19:32:11 from 69.10.215.11

Hmmm....It does say retire from "running", not racing, right? I did just turn 40, so I could be hallucinating. I hear that happens when you get old. Or when they give you the "old person" flu vaccine. What am I talking about?

Glad you're giving the OTQ another shot.

From Scott Ensign on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 22:38:28 from 207.224.194.35

Paul, you picked a great time to come out of retirement with this awesome weather. hey- how about those packers? I really enjoyed watching the beat down, much less stressful than the last one. The pack is really starting to come on at the right time. getting excited for a playoff run... but maybe it will go through Philly and Vick? He is awful good.

ill be 10 min behind ya at boston lol looking at 2:29 see u in april and stay in shape i want to hear at the end of boston that you qualified for the trials!!

From Cody on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 23:47:20 from 174.52.244.185

Very nice treadmill. Very similar to mine. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

I am excited about boston already!

From Jon on Tue, Nov 23, 2010 at 00:34:06 from 24.172.238.230

I don't think I want to know about how you got into Boston... That would be awesome if you get a top time at it. And the treadmill will definitely help, and with the whole "2 kids at home" thing, too.

Let's see: Weather.com-

Logan- Blizzard Warning. High of 11, low of -8 on Wednesday.

Myrtle Beach, SC- High of 76, low of 52. Maybe I don't miss the mountains quite as much...

From Paul on Tue, Nov 23, 2010 at 07:52:44 from 174.27.246.50

Scott - Philly does look good, but since Green Bay beat them in Week 1, the road will go to Lambeau in the event of a tie record at least.

Dale - running IS racing. Going out and doing 5 leisurely miles with no purpose is jogging.

Benny - good to see you back around here.

Jon - you have to take the bad with the good. Winter is necessary in order for summer to exist. And summer is worth it.

That is GREAT!

Paul, thrilled to see you'll be in Boston! Favre had his best year statistically after retirement and he was much older than you. :)
