Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

I was not into running today. It was snowing fairly hard the whole time, but at least it was much warmer. But footing was bad. I started by trying to go up Smithfield Canyon, but then it got too slippery, so I turned back. It was obvious already to me that I was not going to get 15 miles today, or even close. Neither my legs nor my spirit really wanted to go that far, and 4 miles was sounding good instead. But I decided to trick myself into getting as much mileage as possible by meandering around Smithfield, rather than going straight home. I went up Summit Dr. to Hillside Dr. (which added on some unnecessary distance), and took Hillside to 600 S, rather than going straight home on 300 S (another sly trick). Then I decided to check out the Smithfield Rec Center and get a tour, so I ran all the way down to Skyview, which unscrupulously added on more distance. After the tour, I still had to run back home. And by then I had almost 8 miles, twice as much as I originally thought I'd get. Averaged 7:09/mile.

I'll try again next week.

Hi Paul, sounds like a tough run. My run today was tough too. the scenery was so great I kept almost running off the coastal trails as I admired the wildlife, waves crashing over cliffs, and the beautiful tidal pools. got a little warm on my run too, bummer. tough life, but good we can commiserate together

ha ha ha ... I love how we try to "trick" ourselves, funny (? sad?) how it works sometimes!

Yes Red, you had a beautiful run, but there is no free lunch - you have to go hang out with a bunch of weird scientists all night and day this week -- oh wait, they are all just like you!!
