Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

I ran in the late afternoon, and it was gorgeous out, sunny and relatively warm. I ran the Hyde Park - North Logan semi-loop, and did 5x4-minute fartlek with 2-minute recoveries. It was not my greatest workout, but I got through it. The route is pretty rolling, and it seemed like my recoveries were always on the downhills, and the intervals on the uphills (except for the first interval, which was all downhill). Bad timing, I guess. Averaged 5:15/mile, 5:45/mile, 5:37/mile, 5:48/mile, and 5:53/mile for the fartlek part of it. Averaged 6:22/mile for the entire run.

We head out to Michigan tomorrow. I frontloaded my week so that I only need 4 miles tomorrow, as I won't have much time to run.

Have a good trip. I front loaded my week too. Well kind of. I can take Friday off and then do a 30 miler on Sat.

A thought I just had- do you think that you underperform in the half compared to other distances? For example, your 10k PR is 3 minutes faster than me, and you marathon is 16 minutes faster. But your half is only 3 min faster. Would you say that is the PR you can improve the most right now?

Jon - no, I think I'm pretty even throughout the distances. My Daniels' VDOT spans eerily accurate across the board, from 1500m all the way through marathon.

Also, you have to remember that you are comparing your TOU Half time (aided) to my Seattle Half time (unaided). And then you are comparing my St George Marathon time (exceptionally aided) to your TOU Marathon time (moderately aided). So you are really comparing apples and oranges. If you want to compare apples and apples, my best TOU Half time is about 5 minutes faster than yours (1:06-mid vs. 1:11-mid). And my TOU Marathon best is 11 minutes faster than yours (2:23 vs. 2:34). When you look at it this way, our differences in 10K, half marathon, and marathon are pretty linear.

But all that said, I do think I can post much better times in the half marathon than I have in the past. But that's just because I'm an optimistic chap, not because I think I've underperformed at that particular distance.
