Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Equinox Half Marathon. Was hoping to run under 1:06 here, as it is a downhill course with a similar gradient as TOU. Thought I was in shape to do this, but I guess I'm not. Ran with Jeremy Freed of Boulder for the first 7.5 miles, and then he surged and took off, pretty much leaving me in the dust. After that, I started to struggle a lot, and my pace really slowed quite a bit, especially the last three miles. With about 1.5 to go, another guy passed me, and I didn't do much to stop him. Ended up 3rd place overall, with a time of 1:07:54. It's not a terrible time, but I've run much faster, so I'm a bit disappointed. Still, it was a beautiful day to run down Poudre Canyon, and it was a pretty good way to spend a Sunday morning.

Splits: 4:55, 4:54, 5:02, 5:04, 4:58, 5:00, 5:09, 5:09, 5:14, 5:22, 5:29, 5:30, 5:33, 31s.

I guess if I could do it again, I'd go out slower, but at the time I felt it was the right pace, as it was similar to what I've done at TOU and UVM in the past.

Good job as always Paul. Even on an off day your races are incredible.

Nice race Paul. You'll be back in the sub 1:06 range. Its not like you've been cranking out a ton of sub 5 miles this year... so an impressive performance considering the lower key training since the trials.

Not too shabby. Don't be too hard on yourself. Good Job. I loved that canyon. Probably very pretty right now.

Congrats on a great race Paul. Steadily and quietly getting right back after it.

Sorry it didn't go as planned, Paul. Looks like you're bringing the pace down with these, post-trials half marathons. I look forward to the year's remaining races.

So is it a solid 'meh' race? Sorry.

Really good race man. Really impressive off semi EZ training the last 6 months. I'd guess that if you run all the Colorado races next year that you ran this year you'll be back for blood in '13- faster times and higher placing.

Never fun to be left in the dust when you aren't expecting it. Hope you continue to enjoy the thrill of knowing that you have a good shot at winning most races you enter. Third is still respectable but not as fun as first.

Miles in the tank for next time. Nice run despite the less than hoped for outcome.

It's always worth a shot if you're feeling confident about it. Nice race.
