Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Did a semi-loop from Summit Dr to Upper Canyon Rd down Canyon Rd and back up on 600 S. Did some strides in the middle. Averaged 6:41/mile for the run. It was warmer out today than expected, and I overdressed. Yesterday I underdressed. Once I get the wireless thermometer I ordered from Amazon, I will be complete.

Hi Paul. We have a wireless projection thermometer and love it.

Amy is looking at a job in Logan. Do you have any advice or thoughts about living in Logan that would help her?

Mike

Hey Mike, good to hear from you. In regards to Logan/Cache Valley...it's a great place to live if you like a quiet life. Not so great if you love hustle and bustle and "culture" (whatever that is). Outdoor activities are great. Mountains not as big as Salt Lake area, but they allow dogs at least. Skiing is very cheap at Beaver Mnt, esp for kids. Cost of living is also quite low, as real estate and land are cheap, and any commute will be short. Right now you can still buy a lot of house for $200K. (we just bought 2250 sqft and 0.25 acres for < $170K). Not as many places to eat here than in larger cities, but the selection has actually grown quite a bit since I moved here, so I don't think it's bad. Really good gardeners markets here during the growing seasons. Winters are absolutely awful (except for skiing), spring, summer, and fall absolutely delightful. Nice and cool every morning during the summer, and A/C is rarely needed. Winter inversions are very bad. Although I just made fun of the lack of culture, there is the Utah Festival Opera here. There is the Eccles Theatre for plays. Lots of movie theaters. No good live music though. Utah State usually has stuff going on. USU football is bad, but basketball is good. Hmmm, what else. Big new Catholic church in Hyde Park, and one other on USU campus. I don't know from experience if the public schools are any good. No private schools are that I know of, but there are a few charter schools. Obviously, very safe here; always in the Top 10 for Safest Metros. Not sure where your wife would work, but the IHC Women's Center is very new and pretty nice (as I recall your wife is neonatal doc). Lastly, Cache Valley has the coolest runners around. But your wife probably doesn't care about that. Hope that helps!

I second the bit about Cache Valley having the coolest runners, though more are always welcome!

Logan sounds good to me! I like quiet, affordable, and scenic. Amy will be happy if there is a Cafe Rio. I also like the 7-5 lifestyle instead of the work for two days straight lifestyle. Hopefully IHC can set something up for next week for Amy.

Thanks Paul,

Mike

There is a Cafe Rio. It is 4 blocks from IHC.

There's a Cafe Rio, a Costa Vida, and a Bajio's (all very similar)- we actually like Costa Vida the most.

I actually don't care for any of those restaurants (yes, I'm the only one). But there are several Mexican hole-in-the-wall burrito joints around here where you will be the only english speaker if you walk in there, but the burritos are amazing. Bigger than your head. And the Pounders Hawaiian joint is awesome.

I'm with you. Amy loves Cafe Rio but I'll eat a bowl of cereal instead of eating from there.
