Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Ran up Smithfield Canyon. Snowed on the way down. It was quite pretty out. Nice quiet Sunday afternoon to be running. My body is still protesting after the two-week layoff, but it feels kind of good to have hit a hard "reset" and starting over.

Ran from work around noon. It was still snowing a little, but the roads weren't too bad. Ended up doing a Planet Walk route, and averaged about 7:32/mile.

The worst is yet to come for weather. We are supposed to have sub-zero temps in a couple days, which is absurd for November. I used prize money from the marathon to order a pretty nice treadmill (Nordic Track Commercial 7500), but it probably won't arrive until next week. The big news is that I am running Boston this spring (just got my registration done), which I'm extremely excited about, but it also means I need to stay in shape over the winter and actually do some decent mileage. But the treadmill will help with that, and the thought of going for the Trials standard at the venue of Boston gives me plenty of motivation.

Did a loop around Smithfield. Snowy, but somewhat warm. That is supposed to change later today. Averaged about 7:50/mile, although I felt better than I have in previous days.

Day off. Pretty good day to take one. I'll get some cross-training in by shoveling my driveway. It appears that the 2010 Snowpocalypse is done for now.

Roads were icy, but I found good traction on the cemetery loops. Since cars don't drive much on the paths, the plow actually got to the asphalt. Came back on Summit & Hillside. 5.5 miles, averaged 7:10/mile. 3.7 degrees F went I left the house, but it didn't feel too bad after the initial shock. Appropriate clothing helps a lot. Finished up the day with some extra cross training by shoveling the second half of my driveway.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Roads are still very icy, so I did cemetery loops again. 5.5 miles, averaged 7:09/mile. 10 degrees F this morning, felt nice and warm compared to yesterday.
