Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Big Workout today. Did 2 miles warmup @ 6:25/mile, then did a 4-3-2-1 "interval" workout. Did the run on the Bear River Ranch out-and-back route, which is flat with a few long inclines. First 4 miles were marathon pace (5:26, 5:25, 5:22, 5:29), then 2 minutes recovery. The next 3 miles were marathon pace (5:32, 5:19, 5:16), then 2 minutes recovery. The next 2 miles were threshold pace (5:04, 5:01), then 2 minutes recovery. Finally, one last mile at threshold pace (5:06). This last interval was a bear, since it was all on a slight incline. Woof. Lot of gravel on this route, which definitely slowed things down whenever I was on it. I hate to say it, but I prefer blacktop.

Cooled down for 3 miles @ 7:00/mile. 16 miles total for the run, average pace of 5:52/mile.

Wow, that's some strength. How do you like the Kinvara's?

Besides your focus, dedication, and hard work, you must have also chosen your DNA wisely...

Seth - I like the Kinvara's quite a bit. They are a fast shoe, but still feel pretty good for these longer runs.

Jason - thanks, but I wouldn't know. Neither of my parents run, nor does my sister. But I'm built more like my mom, so maybe she would have been a decent runner if she had tried it.

Dude that's what I call a workout. Wow! Good job nailing it.

Wow, that is a great workout, Paul!! I'm impressed that you were able to pick it up so much in the last couple of intervals. It blows my mind that your marathon pace is so fast.

From Paul on Fri, Aug 13, 2010 at 15:07:09 from 65.103.252.214

Thanks Nan. The thing is, it will need to be faster! I think sub-2:19 is about 5:17/mile or so...for 26.2! Tough to think about. I spot myself about 5-10 seconds/mile for the altitude though, so try to keep "MP" around 5:20/5:25.
