Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Ran to the gym and 50 minutes on the elliptical, with a 10x3-minute interval workout (1 minute rest). My heart rate got up to 177-178 by the end, which is about 90% of my max. So I'll deem it a worthwhile workout. The workout went by fast because I watched Super Bowl highlights and analysis on Sports Center the whole time. What a great game! I wanted the Cardinals to win, but still enjoyed watching Pittsburgh run the 2-minute drill perfectly. Seth didn't like all the yelling of a Super Bowl party, though, as it frequently woke him up from naps. Stacy and I don't like loud noises, and therefore never yell, so Seth hadn't heard a good football bellow until now.

After the elliptical I did 1x60 @ 100 lbs on the hip sled, then ran home.

I didn't feel quite right during my workout yesterday, and then after breakfast I crashed pretty hard with a fever and other flu-like symptoms. Bleh. I stayed home from work, took two 3-hour naps, watched "Run for Your Life" (an excellent documentary on Fred Lebow and the creation of the New York Marathon), and generally took it easy. I'm feeling a bit better today, but still a little lethargic and ooey in the gut. I'll work some from home (thanks to remote desktop), but no workout today.

Today I deferred my workout until after work, to make sure I was feeling better (so hard to tell early in the morning). I ran the Landfill Loop, and averaged 7:09/mile. The air here is yucky.

Back at it this morning. Ran to the gym, then did 2x15-minute "tempos" on the elliptical, with 5 minutes recovery between sets. Ran home and ran the dog.

Ran the dog around the block, then ran the Providence Hill Loop. Stopped at the gym and did 10 minutes on the arc trainer and 20 minutes on the elliptical. Also did some leg press. Ran home. Not a bad day, but my left SI was pretty sore. Pace was around 7:30/mile for most of the run.

Ran to the gym. Warmed up for 5 minutes on the elliptical, then did 10x3-minutes hard with 1-minute recovery. My legs were really not into the whole hard workout thing for the first couple intervals, but it got better as I went along. HR got up to 180. 5 minute cooldown. Ran home, then ran the dog around the block.

Ran to the gym. Did 2 miles on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the elliptical. Ran home. Jon, the bagels showed up at 5:53, so you missed them by about 10 minutes.

Ran to the gym. I wanted to do an elliptical workout, but my legs felt pretty bad. So instead I just did 30 minutes on the elliptical, and 3 miles running on the treadmill. Nothing hard. Ran home, and then ran the dog around the block.

Alarm went off, and my body said, "No". Tired legs and no motivation today. So I didn't do anything other than jog the dog around the block. And that felt good.

Oh yeah, I broke into double-digits for my run today. Ran a North Logan loop with Cody, at about 8:00/mile pace. There was a thin layer of snow on the roads, but it was not very slick, so I didn't really notice. I stopped at the gym on the way back and did 10 minutes on the arc trainer and 20 minutes on the elliptical for a little bit extra.

I woke up today feeling very unmotivated. This seems to be an increasing trend. I fed my unmotivation by sleeping in and skipping the gym. I ended up having some free time after work, though, and ran the Planet Walk, very easy. Left hip and SI are hurting.

Still disinterested in training. Well, I like reading about other peoples' training, but do not want to actually do it myself. I'm sure the mood will pass.

AM - ran to breakfast

Afternoon - ran the Landfill Loop. It was mild out, with clean air and even a little bit of sunshine. It was an enjoyable run, and my body felt better than it had the last few days. Ran home afterward.

PM - ran the Planet Walk with Seth after work. Very very slow, even for with a stroller. The ice didn't help either. Seth fell asleep as usual and I almost did too.

Did the North Logan Loop, and met Joe and Ruthie up by campus. It was a cold morning (as usual), and I was butt-slow. About 8-minute/mile pace. Right hammie hurt.

Went to Solitude in the afternoon and skiied a half-day with a group of A.S.-kickers. Fun times, and it was nice to meet some new people. The snow was just so-so, but the day was warm and beautiful, so it was great to get out, get some sun, and cut some turns. Solitude was nice too: my first time there. No lines, so I guess the namesake is true.

AM - ran 1 mile with the dog

PM - took Seth and ran the Planet Walk, then ran back to work. 4 miles total. It was pleasant out. My hamstring has been feeling much better since going skiing, so that must have stretched something out. But my legs are still pretty sore from the ski day.

AM - ran the dog around the block

PM - ran the River Heights Loop up Center St. Then grabbed Seth for some stroller miles, but it started snowing and blowing pretty good, so we cut it short.

This morning I went for my rheumatologist checkup. I told him I wanted to start a biologic medication, so we discussed all that, and I also got a Hep test and a chest x-ray. Tomorrow I go in to get a TB test. If it all looks good, and if insurance gives thumbs-up, I could start as early as next week. Will probably do either Enbrel or Remicade, whichever has more financial aid. Without aid and insurance, these meds can run over $20,000/year. Taking this step is something I've been thinking about for quite some time, and I think I've gotten to the point where I'm comfortable with the stats and potential side effects, and think the pro's will outweight the cons. I'll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

Ran with Jon and Cody up Blacksmith Fork. Actually, down Blacksmith Fork. There was a nasty cold canyon wind, so we decided to shuttle up and run down. And that wasn't so bad, although I was quite tired by the end. 7:09/mile average pace.
