Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

AM - West Smithfield Loop, 10 miles, 7:35/mile average.

PM - ran to the bank and back. Ran home with $1000 cash, which is always a little scary, yet liberating to know if I need to buy something for $1000 during my run...I can. Considered buying a gun to protect my $1000, but alas the bank does not sell guns. Averaged 7:15/mile for 4 miles.

I start a new job today, with the company in Fort Collins I've been contracting for. We'll be moving to Ft Collins as soon as our house sells. (so it may be a while!) It's a little bitter-sweet, since we've been in Utah for 10 years will leave a lot here, but am excited about the job and about Colorado.

Boooo! I am happy for you, but you suck. You will love it there, but we will miss you.

From Jake K on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:01:12 from 155.100.226.53

Wow, that's some big news. I've heard nothing but awesome things about Ft Collins. The places to run there are fantastic, and I think they have a very strong local running community. As your kids start getting older, you are going to have a blast being that close to Rocky Mountain National Park! I fear that you are going to start training w/ Nick Clark and become an ultra-runner, though! :-)

From Paul on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:02:22 from 24.10.141.104

Never heard of him.

From Paul on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:03:57 from 24.10.141.104

But yes, it's a nice place. It's a good move for my family, and hopefully good for my career too. Running didn't really play into it. Frankly, I like running in Utah, like the race scene here, like my routes and my trails. Change of scenery won't hurt though, plus I'll never have to run on a road again, with the huge urban trail network out there.

From jtshad on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:11:23 from 204.134.132.225

Congrats on the new job, I remember talking about it with you when we ran back in June. Logan is one of the hot areas in the country (work, places to live, etc.) according to several magazines and websites, so hopefully you can sell your house quickly.

I am sure you will be missed, especially on the local running scene.

From Jake K on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:13:26 from 155.100.226.53

I should have added Congrats! to my comment above. Sounds like it will be a good move for the Petersen clan, which is the most important thing!

From Dustin on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:29:20 from 204.113.48.131

Congrats Paul and best of luck with the move and the new job. We will really miss seeing you at the local races. I grew up in Colorado and still call it home. I'm sure you will enjoy Ft. Collins. Maybe you will have to become a Broncos fan like Jon and I. Probably not happening considering how much you like the Packers.

From Aaron Kennard on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 11:30:08 from 98.245.117.176

AWESOME! Joining the dark side! You will love it over here. And ft. collins is fantastic. So many options for superb trail and road (path) running, and a great running community. I doubt you will miss those frigid cache valley winters either. It gets cold here, but nothing like Logan. Look forward to welcoming you to Colorado soon.

From Paul on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 12:30:07 from 24.10.141.104

I will not miss the winters here. Although it has been a delightful summer, much cooler here in Utah than in Colorado.

I can root for the Broncos as long as they are not playing the Packers. I have no trouble cheering for the home team, and wherever I live at the time is "home". Although if CSU plays USU in basketball, I will still have to cheer for USU, since I did graduate from there after all.

From Andrea on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 15:54:30 from 67.177.21.60

I spent a whole dinner conversation with a guy in Wisconsin last night talking about the Packers. GB stuff everywhere there!

Congrats on the job and move. Hope you are able to sell your house!

From Paul on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 15:58:20 from 24.10.141.104

If you bring it up with me, I can also talk all night about the Packers.

Yes, selling the house will be a chore, but fortunately are house is in a price range that is very sell-able. Plus it's a bench location, so that doesn't hurt either.

From Holt on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 16:50:07 from 204.113.55.41

Well crap - just go and move; must be something about Logan, no one wants to stay there too long! But congratulations on that when it happens, but we will miss you around. Now maybe all the southern boys will take a roadie to Ft. Collins and join you in a race!

From Dustin on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 17:05:51 from 204.113.48.131

Yeah maybe we could all do the Wild West Relay some day.

From allie on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 18:57:01 from 24.10.191.18

congrats on the new job and good luck with the selling/moving process. sounds like it will be a fun change for you and your family.

i once walked through merlin olsen park with $1500 cash in my back pocket, and there were about 100 people that knew right where it was. luckily, i was armed with really sharp moose trophy sticks.

From Paul on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 19:04:23 from 24.10.141.104

here's a secret: I just threw away about 4 TOU moose. They are sharp and pointy, and they do not pack well in boxes. But I kept my three favorites.

From Starman on Thu, Sep 01, 2011 at 23:09:41 from 98.127.92.102

Congrats on the new job! I hope the house sells quickly. Ft. Collins is only an hour south of Laramie, but I've only visited it a couple of times. People around here seem to love it though.

From Jon on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 21:51:09 from 74.177.100.34

I got rid of a bunch of moose and some of the red rock TOU 1/2 guys, too.

Good luck- hope your house sells soon. But indeed- between your dreams of ultrarunning, plus living in Ft. Collins near Nick Clark and other great trail runners, I think it is inevitable.

From Hamdog Alum on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 23:21:39 from 68.185.190.140

Paul I hope you sell your house fast! I used to own a realestate company, so if you ever need advice I'm here to help. Also, you're a smart man for being a Packer fan! World Champs!!!

From Superfly on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 10:10:54 from 74.211.21.81

sad:) but hope the new job and move will be great for the family.
